Snappi – Marketplace App & Design System

Project Overview

Snappi Marketplace is an internal product developed by Touchpoint International. It was launched as part of a separate digital initiative that followed our successful collaboration with Kenya Wildlife Service, expanding our reach within the East African region. The project aimed to transform the local commerce experience by introducing a scalable, mobile-first marketplace platform tailored for Kenyan users.

Snappi Marketplace began as a concept to unify different eCommerce verticals such as Marketplace, Travel, and Savings under a single experience. My responsibility was to define the UX foundation, architect the app structure, and create a scalable design system that aligns with brand consistency and future growth.

Problem

  • Snappi’s early versions suffered from a disjointed experience:

  • Inconsistent navigation and layout patterns across modules

  • Users found it difficult to switch between Marketplace, Travel, and Savings

  • No design system, leading to inconsistencies in spacing, color usage, buttons, and components

  • Scalability was hard due to lack of reusable UI components

  • Developer handoff was inefficient due to lack of documentation

Project Goals

  • Create a unified multi-vertical user journey across Marketplace, Travel, and Savings

  • Build a scalable design system that supports future expansion

  • Improve information architecture, making category navigation intuitive

  • Reduce UI inconsistencies and unify branding

  • Deliver developer-ready assets and documentation for smooth han

🔎 UX/UI Process

Conducted competitive benchmarking for regional eCommerce & travel platforms

  • Structured UX flows for each user journey: onboarding, login, category discovery, cart, checkout, savings wallet

  • Defined category hierarchy across multiple levels (All Categories, Subcategories, Filters)

  • Designed mobile screens using Figma:

    • Explore/Home Page with modules like banners, savings, travel, and featured brands

    • Onboarding + Sign Up/Sign In + OTP Verification

    • Product Discovery via categories, filters, and product detail screens

    • Cart Experience with summary, savings, and rewards

    • Checkout and Confirmation Pages

  • Built a detailed Design System UI Kit:

    • Colors, spacing, typography, iconography, input forms, buttons, cards

    • Design tokens and modular components for scaling

  • Delivered handoff documentation with styles, specs, and behavior notes

💼 Summary

Snappi’s design transformation was more than just UI—it was a rethink of how a product grows. I structured the UX, visual system, and navigation logic in a way that allows Snappi to evolve. The result: a confident, consistent and commerce-ready platform designed for everyday users across Africa and beyond.
